Local Efforts to Decriminalize Cannabis

Evanston has joined the list of places in Illinois that allow for an officer to issue a ticket instead of arrest for individuals with small amounts of cannabis. While we support decriminalization efforts like the one in Evanston, House Bill 100, and the Chicago ordinance introduced by Ald. Danny Solis, we still aim to legalize cannabis and remove all criminal and civil penalties for the responsible use of cannabis by adults. However, the Evanston ordinance and other efforts like it are the result of everyday Americans voicing their opinions to local officials about the need to change our cannabis laws. Please take a moment today to contact your local leaders about ending cannabis prohibition.

Medical Cannabis Legislation Awaiting Approval by Illinois Legislators

Legislation that seeks to legalize the physician-supervised use of medical cannabis is on hold until legislators return to Springfield. House Bill 30 (http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=30 GAID=11 DocTypeID=%20HB LegId=54410 SessionID=84 GA=97), the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, allows qualified patients to possess and grow cannabis for medical purposes. Please contact your State Representative and State Senator and urge them to pass this much needed legislation as soon as possible. By calling 217-782-2000 the state directory operators will be able to connect you to your legislators' offices. Please let us know what responses you get from these lawmakers. If you can setup an appointment to meet with them in person that is even better.
