SB1381 Fails to Pass PDF Print E-mail

Lawmakers were unable to secure the needed 60 votes to pass Senate Bill 1381 after it was debated for over an hour on Tuesday, November 30, 2010.  The bill was able to get as many as 56 Yes votes before legislators started switching their votes and the bill was pulled from the record and put on postponed consideration. There is a chance that Illinois State Representatives will be able to vote on the bill again sometime between January 3-11, 2011, if the bill doesn't pass by January 12 it will die and we will have to start the legislative process over again.  Unfortunately, Illinois does not have a ballot initiative process that would be able to give voters the chance to decide on medical cannabis.
