Legislation seeking to reduce cannabis possession penalties has been introduced in the Illinois legislature. House Bill 100 amends state law so that the adult possession of up to one ounce of cannabis is reduced from a criminal misdemeanor (punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine) to a "petty offense" punishable by a fine only. Full text of the bill can be read online at http://www.ilga.gov and searching for HB 100.

House Bill 100 has been referred to the House Rules Committee.
