The use of statin drugs is associated with serious side effects, most prominent is a degeneration of the muscular tissue and debilitating pain that comes with it. What is less well known is that the progression of the muscle wasting side effect may lead to a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig's disease or motor neurone disease, described as a chronic, progressive, almost invariably fatal neurological disease.
