SANTA FE (AP): Supporters of a state bill in New Mexico were shocked when it first tied in the House and then failed in a re-vote. Governor Richardson, who is running for President, has taken the matter on personally, saying "I want it" and calling lawmakers one by one to ask for their support for a new bill.
Gov. Richardson says he's meeting with lawmakers to try to resurrect a medical cannabis bill. The House narrowly defeated the measure Thursday night, but Richardson says it's important to pass it. By midday Friday, he had talked one-on-one with at least five House members to try to get them to change their votes. He says he also plans to talk to House Speaker Ben Lujan, who opposes the bill. It would authorize the use of cannabis by patients certified under a Department of Health program.
