Question 1 "What are my rights when I get pulled over for a traffic violation?"

Answer: As Americans we are protected from illegal searches and seizures of our property as a result of the 4th amendment of the Constitution. However, there are limitations to this right and if you were smoking recently it would probably still smell like it and thus the officer would have a reasonable suspicion to search you and your vehicle for drugs. Police often will ask compound questions in order for you to waive this right such as, "Son you don't have anything illegal on you now do ya, so you wouldn't mind if I looked around your car real quick would ya?" Most nervous people will quickly reply "NO" to the first question about having anything illegal but the officer will use that as a response regarding his question to search your car. Once you waive your right it is gone.

Also, do not forget that you have the right to remain silent and not admit to anything under the 5th Amendment. If you would like a business card that can help prevent you from getting arrested by taking advantage of your rights, please contact us.

Question 2 "Things are really dry around me, can you guys hook me up?"

Answer: We hear this request all the time and unfortunately we are here to change laws and not to break them. We cannot change marijuana policy if we are in jail for "hooking people up." Please respect our organization and help us change these laws.

Question 3 "Do I have to submit to a drug test for my job?"

Answer: In America people are employed at will and because of that if you want the job you must submit. There are chances that once employed random drug tests that are enforced not randomly might be grounds for a civil suit but that is unlikely and expensive to pursue. The best advice is to talk to the potential employer about why they desire to test you for drugs and suggest them to read NORML's Model Workplace Policy for Off-the-Job Cannabis Use
