Participating in politics on the local level is extremely easy and effective at changing your community.  Attending county board meetings, assisting a candidates election campaign and constantly communicating with your local official's office are great ways to get your voice heard.  Plus, there are fewer people attempting to influence local politicians so your efforts will go farther.  Sign up for your local officials email lists or campaign event updates, that way you will know when they are in the district and at public events.  

State Representatives, Senators and County Officials represent smaller amounts of people than federal officials and are better able to respond to your views on specific policies.  If you know of a few other people who live in the same district encourage them to join you in your efforts.  A small group of constituents calling, writing or talking to an official can be very powerful.
