- Contact lawmakers -

The only way to end cannabis prohibition is to contact those who make the laws and convince them to end this war on Americans.  Legislators on the state and local level are much more accessible than federal lawmakers and by contacting these local lawmakers your voice is going to make an impact.  Tell them to end cannabis prohibition.  Tell them that doctors should be able to recommend cannabis.  Tell them that Illinois farmers should be able to grow hemp.  Direct lobbying of statewide officials is the single most important thing that people can do to help Illinois NORML, plus it is the patriotic thing to do.  If you have already contacted your elected officials, contact them again.  Make sure they know how important this issue is to you.

- Tell others -

Talking to other people who support this cause is a simple, free and effective way to help.  Tell them about our free membership offer to anyone arrested for a cannabis offense or lost opportunity from a drug test.  If you are ever on jury duty acquit all cannabis charges. The more that people know about our organization and cannabis prohibition the more likely these laws will change.

- Write a letter to your local newspaper and call the television stations -

Newspapers and TV stations are always looking for stories to run and we can influence public opinion by having our side of this issue broadcast in both mediums.  Letters to editors are a great way to express your support for ending cannabis prohibition and protecting medical cannabis patients from arrest.  A short letter can be sent via email to numerous news outlets and if it is published can reach thousands of readers.  For more info on how to write a letter to the editor visit the Media Awareness Project.
